Ghanaian entrepreneur and realtor Biswoody Adjei has opened up about how the financial struggles he experienced growing up shaped his determination to succeed.

Born and raised in Accra, Adjei said his childhood was marked by financial difficulties as his parents struggled to make ends meet.

According to him, those experiences did not only expose him to hardship but also helped develop his entrepreneurial mindset and ability to identify opportunities in difficult situations.

Adjei recalled that while in school, he started his first entrepreneurial venture by helping his colleagues with their assignments in exchange for money or snacks.

Although the income was small, he said the initiative helped reduce some of the financial pressure on his parents and gave him an early taste of entrepreneurship.

“I just know for some reason, everything I went through pushed me to want to succeed more than anything in the world,” he said.

Adjei explained that his childhood experiences also influenced his decision to venture into real estate.

He said his family frequently moved from one house to another because of rent-related challenges, while he was often dissatisfied with the quality and design of some of the houses they occupied.

He noted that these experiences eventually developed into a passion for creating unique and comfortable homes for people.

“My experience and stay in different parts of the world can say, has also contributed to that,” he added.

Before becoming a realtor, Adjei said he started his career as a creative artist and IT technician before eventually returning to entrepreneurship, which he described as a passion he had nurtured since childhood.

He currently operates across the real estate and transport sectors, with activities including the building, sale, management, rental and leasing of private and commercial properties.

His transport business also covers economic vehicles for commercial drivers, private saloon cars and heavy machinery for construction and mining purposes.

Adjei said freedom and the satisfaction that comes from solving problems are among the major factors that motivate him to keep working hard.

He also believes fear should not prevent people from pursuing their dreams.

“The word ‘fear’ has killed a lot of dreams, so I don’t entertain it,” he said, adding that his biggest concern is being unable to find solutions to problems he may encounter.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Adjei said he has no regrets about his past decisions because both his mistakes and successes have contributed to making him who he is today.

He identified his family and his ability to provide them with opportunities he did not have during his childhood as one of his greatest accomplishments.

Adjei further encouraged young people to move beyond their comfort zones and embrace entrepreneurship.

He warned that remaining in a comfort zone for too long can limit personal growth, creativity and the ability to create meaningful opportunities.

According to him, taking risks and trying new things can help young people discover their abilities while creating opportunities for others.

He believes entrepreneurship can promote independence, enable people to shape their futures and create jobs that contribute to economic development.
