<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ghanaian motivational speaker, graduate student and social impact advocate Peter Bawuah has opened up about his difficult childhood and the experiences that shaped his commitment to empowering young people and underserved communities.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bawuah, who hails from Techimantia, Ghana, said his upbringing was marked by financial hardship. His parents were farmers who worked hard to provide for their family, but limited resources often made it difficult to meet their needs and support his education.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Determined to remain in school, Bawuah took on different jobs to help finance his education. Among other things, he worked as a mate on a trotro while also engaging in various odd jobs.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His pursuit of education eventually took him to Accra, where he faced even greater challenges. At one point, he said he slept on a bench in a carpenter’s shop as he struggled to continue his studies.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rather than allowing these circumstances to define his future, Bawuah said the experiences taught him important lessons about hard work, perseverance and the value of education.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to him, living through hardship also helped him discover the power of storytelling and public speaking. He began sharing his personal experiences with the hope of encouraging people who were facing similar challenges.<br></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A defining moment came when Bawuah recognised that his story could serve as a source of hope for others experiencing difficult circumstances.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Turning personal struggles into purpose</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bawuah’s journey has since expanded beyond education and public speaking into advocacy, leadership and philanthropy.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He has had opportunities to participate in global platforms as a UN delegate and public speaker, where he has shared messages centred on youth empowerment, education, resilience and the need for systemic change.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the experiences he considers particularly significant was addressing an international summit on youth empowerment. There, he reflected on his journey from sleeping on a bench to standing on global stages.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For Bawuah, such opportunities represent more than personal achievements. He believes they demonstrate what is possible when individuals refuse to allow their circumstances to determine their destiny.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His journey has also included helping his parents travel abroad, a milestone he described as the result of years of sacrifice and determination. He said the achievement represented a break from generational limitations and an opportunity to honour the sacrifices his parents made for him.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Giving back through the PeterHills Needy Foundation</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bawuah has channelled his experiences into community development through the PeterHills Needy Foundation, which he founded to support underprivileged young people.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The foundation focuses on areas including educational scholarships, healthcare assistance and entrepreneurial training for disadvantaged youth.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He highlighted the story of a young girl who benefited from the foundation’s scholarship programme, completed her education and went on to mentor others in her community.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For Bawuah, such outcomes reinforce his belief that empowering one person can create a wider impact within society.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">A vision for the next generation</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Despite the challenges he has faced, Bawuah said his ambitions extend beyond his personal success.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He envisions expanding his impact through leadership, policy and philanthropy over the next five to 10 years. He also plans to grow the PeterHills Needy Foundation, establish more educational initiatives and continue using global platforms to inspire young people.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His broader goal is to see more people from disadvantaged backgrounds rise into positions of influence and help break cycles of poverty.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bawuah said resilience, integrity, humility and service remain central to his life and work. He also believes young people should embrace their individual stories, pursue knowledge and use their experiences as motivation to create positive change.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For him, success is ultimately measured by the lives one touches rather than recognition received.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Legacy isn’t built by applause, but by impact,” he said, emphasising his commitment to raising others while pursuing his own ambitions.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bawuah’s story, from a challenging childhood in Techimantia to international platforms, reflects his belief that humble beginnings do not have to determine the destination.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His message to young people is clear: the past may shape a person, but it does not have to define the future.</p>
