<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Christiana Prah has shared an inspiring account of how she overcame academic setbacks and more than 200 rejections to pursue Nuclear Power Plant Engineering in South Korea.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Prah, who hails from Sekondi-Takoradi, is currently studying at the KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS) in South Korea on a fully funded scholarship valued at US$100,000.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her journey to the prestigious institution was far from straightforward.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After gaining admission to Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast to study General Science, Prah initially failed the examination required to qualify for the science programme. She was subsequently placed in Home Economics.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, she refused to allow the setback to determine her future and continued seeking another opportunity. She eventually gained admission into a competitive Physics class despite having difficulties catching up with some previously taught topics.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After completing secondary school, Prah proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she studied Biological Sciences and graduated with a second-class lower division.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her search for further academic and professional opportunities was met with significant challenges, as she received more than 200 rejections after applying to various biology-related programmes.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rather than giving up, Prah focused on developing herself through professional associations, internships, volunteering, networking and intellectual engagements.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her major breakthrough came when she discovered opportunities in the nuclear energy sector. Despite having no formal background in engineering or nuclear science, she applied for a Nuclear Power Plant Engineering programme at KINGS.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She was accepted and awarded a full scholarship worth US$100,000. The scholarship covered her tuition, accommodation and board, paving the way for her to continue her studies in South Korea.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to Prah, the programme has been intensive, but she has managed to adapt, thrive and exceed her own expectations.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her achievements have also extended beyond her current studies. In May 2022, she was awarded a one-year internship at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters in Vienna.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She, however, declined the internship opportunity because of academic commitments at the time.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Reflecting on her journey, Prah believes academic performance alone should not be used to determine a person&#8217;s ultimate potential or destination.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She said her experience has taught her that setbacks, rejection and difficult circumstances should not prevent people from pursuing their goals.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Prah attributes her progress to God, determination and her commitment to remaining relevant and useful to society.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She has encouraged young people to set clear goals, take responsibility for their decisions and remain persistent even when their efforts do not immediately produce the desired results.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For Prah, the focus should be on achieving the dream rather than simply talking about it.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her journey from struggling with science in secondary school, through more than 200 rejections, to studying nuclear engineering in South Korea demonstrates how persistence and determination can open unexpected doors.</p>
