Setbacks cannot determine where you will end up- Christiana Prah

&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Christiana Prah has shared an inspiring account of how she overcame academic setbacks and more than 200 rejections to pursue Nuclear Power Plant Engineering in South Korea&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Prah&comma; who hails from Sekondi-Takoradi&comma; is currently studying at the KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School &lpar;KINGS&rpar; in South Korea on a fully funded scholarship valued at US&dollar;100&comma;000&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Her journey to the prestigious institution was far from straightforward&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">After gaining admission to Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast to study General Science&comma; Prah initially failed the examination required to qualify for the science programme&period; She was subsequently placed in Home Economics&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">However&comma; she refused to allow the setback to determine her future and continued seeking another opportunity&period; She eventually gained admission into a competitive Physics class despite having difficulties catching up with some previously taught topics&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">After completing secondary school&comma; Prah proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology &lpar;KNUST&rpar;&comma; where she studied Biological Sciences and graduated with a second-class lower division&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Her search for further academic and professional opportunities was met with significant challenges&comma; as she received more than 200 rejections after applying to various biology-related programmes&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Rather than giving up&comma; Prah focused on developing herself through professional associations&comma; internships&comma; volunteering&comma; networking and intellectual engagements&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Her major breakthrough came when she discovered opportunities in the nuclear energy sector&period; Despite having no formal background in engineering or nuclear science&comma; she applied for a Nuclear Power Plant Engineering programme at KINGS&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">She was accepted and awarded a full scholarship worth US&dollar;100&comma;000&period; The scholarship covered her tuition&comma; accommodation and board&comma; paving the way for her to continue her studies in South Korea&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">According to Prah&comma; the programme has been intensive&comma; but she has managed to adapt&comma; thrive and exceed her own expectations&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Her achievements have also extended beyond her current studies&period; In May 2022&comma; she was awarded a one-year internship at the International Atomic Energy Agency &lpar;IAEA&rpar; headquarters in Vienna&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">She&comma; however&comma; declined the internship opportunity because of academic commitments at the time&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Reflecting on her journey&comma; Prah believes academic performance alone should not be used to determine a person&&num;8217&semi;s ultimate potential or destination&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">She said her experience has taught her that setbacks&comma; rejection and difficult circumstances should not prevent people from pursuing their goals&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Prah attributes her progress to God&comma; determination and her commitment to remaining relevant and useful to society&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">She has encouraged young people to set clear goals&comma;
