DUSAF SUPPORTS VIDA’S SPINAL CORD SURGERY (SPINA BIFIDA REPAIR)
The above named 20 year old young adult has been seen on several occasions at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, Ghana.
Throughout Vida’s life she has no control over when to urinate or ease herself. The urine and stool come out without her control or she being aware (involuntarily). This makes it very difficult to mingle with others and obviously going to affect any chance of her getting married. She struggled through School amidst teasing and rejection; currently a seamstress apprentice.
A bold step was taken by Shepherds Rod Foundation Ghana to know what really her medical condition was.
Finally the silence was broken and according to Dr Asibey as attached to this story, Vida has Occult Spina Bifida; a condition which exist from birth that affects the spinal cord making Vida lose control of the muscles that controls the opening and closure of her anus and urinary bladder. The loss of control allows the free flow of their respective content.
She also has Ectopic ureters (abnormal positioning of her ureters). From Dr. Asibey, the Snr Specialist at the Paediatric Unit, we need an estimated amount of 18000 Ghana Cedis for our young sister to be healthy again. We have tasked ourselves to help solicit for funds for this surgery.
