Dorothy Adwoa Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as DAYA, has shared how resilience, self-growth and a willingness to learn from setbacks have shaped her journey as a public servant and entrepreneur.
Yeboah Adjei, who works with the Gaming Commission of Ghana, is also the CEO of Daya Ushering and Daya Fabrics. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Ghana and a master’s degree in Management and Administration from the University of Ghana Business School.
According to her, her entrepreneurial spirit was influenced largely by her childhood, particularly watching her mother engage in different businesses while growing up.
She said she began selling various products while in school, from primary school through university, and later developed an interest in combining her corporate career with entrepreneurship.
After completing her National Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she joined the Gaming Commission of Ghana in 2016. She later returned to her entrepreneurial ambitions, establishing Daya Ushering in 2018.
Yeboah Adjei said Daya Ushering was established not only as a business but also with the aim of supporting needy students with basic needs, drawing inspiration from some of the challenges she experienced while in school.
In 2019, she ventured into the fabric business by establishing Fabric Palace as an online business. The venture later expanded into a physical shop in 2021 and was rebranded as Daya Fabrics.
Reflecting on challenges in her entrepreneurial journey, Yeboah Adjei recounted an experience where trusting a business partner despite seeing warning signs resulted in financial losses.
She said the experience taught her the importance of taking responsibility and being actively involved in her business.
“Failures in our ways aren’t meant to stop us. They are designed to point the way to the new route, new possibilities and new doorways,” she said.
Yeboah Adjei identified self-growth and inspiring others as key motivations in her life, stressing the importance of moving beyond one’s comfort zone, learning new skills and continuously becoming a better version of oneself.
She also described the wholesale aspect of Daya Fabrics as one of her greatest accomplishments, particularly because it has enabled her to help other young women establish their own businesses.
Daya Ushering provides ushering and protocol services for corporate events, weddings, parties, conferences, seminars, product activations and commercials.
Daya Fabrics, meanwhile, offers wholesale and retail fabrics, including bridal laces, haute couture fabrics, bridesmaids’ laces and brocades.
The entrepreneur encouraged young people to challenge themselves and pursue opportunities beyond their comfort zones, noting that entrepreneurship plays an important role in job creation and economic growth.
She urged aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to remain committed and intentional about their journeys, while learning from setbacks instead of allowing them to become barriers to progress.
