British-born Ghanaian entrepreneur Lorraine Wright-Boateng MBE is using her experience across the United Kingdom and Ghana to strengthen connections between the Ghanaian diaspora and investment opportunities in the country.

With a career spanning technology, finance, entrepreneurship and community development, Wright-Boateng has positioned herself as an advocate for diaspora participation in Ghana’s economic growth, particularly through real estate, business and strategic investment.

She was recently recognised by HSBC and the UK Black Business Show as one of the Top 25 Black Entrepreneurs to Watch, adding to a career that includes senior roles at UBS Bank and Meta. She also holds an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford.

Through her strategic advisory practice, Wright-Boateng helps members of the diaspora understand Ghana’s property and investment landscape. Her flagship initiative, Diaspora to Home, provides guidance to people interested in acquiring property and identifying income-generating assets in Ghana.

According to Wright-Boateng, her decision to focus on connecting the diaspora with Ghana was influenced by her experience of living and working across two countries.

She said entrepreneurship presented an opportunity to use her international experience to create pathways for others while strengthening ties between the UK and Ghana.

Wright-Boateng has also highlighted the growth of Ghana’s real estate industry, pointing to increasing property development across major cities including Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.

She noted that the sector has benefited from several factors, including foreign direct investment, a growing middle class, rising demand for residential and commercial properties, and increasing investment from Ghanaians living abroad.

The Real Estate Agency Act, 2020 (Act 1047), was introduced to regulate the real estate agency sector, while the Home Ownership Act, 2020, introduced measures aimed at encouraging homeownership and improving access to housing opportunities.

The opportunities, she explained, extend beyond traditional residential property. Commercial developments, mixed-use projects, hospitality facilities and short-term rentals such as Airbnb are among areas attracting interest.

Wright-Boateng identified affordable housing as an area with strong potential, particularly as demand continues among both local residents and members of the diaspora.

She also pointed to commercial real estate as another potential growth area, driven by the expansion of businesses and international companies in Ghana. Mixed-use developments that combine residential, commercial and office spaces are also becoming increasingly attractive.

The hospitality sector, she added, presents opportunities linked to Ghana’s growing tourism industry, particularly in coastal communities and areas around major tourist attractions.

Short-term accommodation is another area she believes could generate opportunities for investors, especially in locations with strong demand during periods such as Detty December and other major tourism activities.

Wright-Boateng’s work in Ghana extends beyond real estate. She serves as a Non-Executive Director of Grow For Me, a Ghanaian agri-tech crowdfunding platform, and is also the founder of Liona Nails and Liona Lashes.

She co-founded UV Talent, a music talent agency that has supplied performers for international productions including The X Factor and The Voice. Her business activities are complemented by initiatives focused on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and community development.

One of her most notable initiatives is the University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY), a UK-based televised competition established through her social enterprise, Resonates Well CIC.

The initiative has engaged thousands of students across more than 70 universities in the UK and 20 universities in Ghana. It promotes gospel music while supporting youth empowerment, student wellbeing and mental health awareness.

Her work with UGCY earned her an MBE for services to youth and music.

Wright-Boateng believes Ghana’s property market offers several entry points for people seeking to participate in the sector. These include property development, housing sales, land sales and professional services such as real estate law.

For her, the broader objective is not simply to encourage property purchases but to help members of the diaspora make informed decisions while contributing to Ghana’s economic development.

With more than 15 years of experience across corporate and entrepreneurial environments, Wright-Boateng continues to position herself at the intersection of business, investment and social impact.

Through her work, she is seeking to create stronger economic links between Ghana and its diaspora while encouraging more people to explore opportunities in the country’s growing property and business sectors.
