Alloysius Attah was born on a farm where his family lived in Ghana.
“My aunt farmed two acres of land, despite the challenges she faced in accessing information, financial services and markets,” he says.
In his final year at university, he co-founded Farmerline. It provides information and technology to farmers in Ghana’s most unconnected corners. Through its Mergdata platform, it provides data analytics and through Paytime, a credit scoring and lending app, the company uses alternative data sources for farmers with no credit history.
The company also helps connect businesses and governments with more than 200,000 farmers in nine African countries.
Last year, Attah won numerous awards, like the SEED Award and the Financial Times/IFC World Bank Group Transformational Business Award for Achievement in Information and Communication Technology. He employs 25 people and plans to reach 1 million active users by 2020.
Before Farmerline, Attah co-founded two companies, Alloyworld, a web development and photography start-up, and iCottage Networks, a mobile and software development company in Ghana.
