Ing. Peter Godslove Debrah, founder of Pedlo Energy, has urged young people to remain committed to their dreams despite facing temporary setbacks in their careers and businesses.
Debrah, an experienced engineer and entrepreneur, said perseverance, competence, education and self-belief are essential qualities for anyone seeking to build a successful career or business.
His entrepreneurial journey was largely influenced by his experience in the oil and gas industry, where he observed the difficulties many qualified engineers faced in securing employment.
While working with international companies and serving as a line manager responsible for training engineers, Debrah noticed that thousands of professionals were competing for a limited number of job opportunities.
He subsequently identified an opportunity to establish a company that could train skilled professionals while creating opportunities for them to work on major projects.
That vision led to the establishment of Pedlo Energy in 2012.
The company has since expanded its operations beyond the oil and gas sector into marine, mining and hydro-engineering, with projects in Ghana and other countries.
Pedlo Energy’s headquarters is in Houston, Texas, with branches across several countries, reflecting the company’s growth from its Ghanaian roots into an international engineering business.
Debrah’s academic background includes studies at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, California State University and Stanford University, where he obtained a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
He also pursued studies at Swiss Business School and Cardiff Metropolitan University and conducted research at the China Academy of Science.
Despite the company’s growth, Debrah said Pedlo Energy has experienced challenging periods, including delayed contracts and difficulties meeting workers’ salaries.
He, however, remained committed to the company’s vision and continued working towards its long-term objectives.
Pedlo Energy has undertaken several projects in Ghana, including offshore marine installations, an offshore oil jetty and an offshore sea defence system.
Beyond its commercial activities, the company has also contributed to youth development through technical training programmes in areas such as welding, fabrication and electrical technology.
Debrah’s experience highlights the importance of resilience in entrepreneurship, particularly when businesses encounter financial pressures, delayed opportunities or other unexpected challenges.
He encouraged young people to continue developing their skills and investing in education while remaining patient and confident in their abilities.
According to him, setbacks should be viewed as temporary obstacles rather than reasons to abandon one’s aspirations.
His journey with Pedlo Energy demonstrates how industry experience, combined with a commitment to creating opportunities for others, can develop into a business with operations across multiple sectors and international markets.
